Moodle plugins database is growing day by day with the inclusion of cool new plugins which enhances the power of core Moodle to a greater extent and meet the requirements of various sectors. KTree Dashboard is another new plugin in the Moodle plugins database which creates a new dashboard for Moodle to access the various blocks present in an easy way.
The dashboard plugin is kept under the Incubating category as of now to gather further reviews from the community. I had tested the plugin on my Moodle 3.0 development server and observed that the plugin is working flawlessly and offers a great new dashboard featuring Enrolled Courses, Assessments, Messages and Blogs on a single page.

Features:

  • New Dashboard offering Enrolled Courses, Assessments, Messages and Blogs in a single page.
  • Simple to access.
  • No configuration required

Installation:

The plugin is released in the incubating category but it is local plugin type so it has to be installed in your-moodle-site/local directory followed by completing the installation process through the Notifications page. Read the Plugin installation guide for complete steps about installing a new plugin in Moodle.

Intended Usage:

The Ktree dashboard plugin is meant to provide a new kind of Dashboard to users so that the users can easily navigate through various blocks and simplifies the ease of navigating. The users can access the new dashboard through the Navigation block.

Documentation:

The plugin comes up with a basic documentation page on Github project page which provides the basic use case of the plugin.

Does it serves its purpose:

Yes, the plugin provides a nice and easy to navigate dashboard for users. The best thing which I like the most is the link to all courses, assessments etc in all the blocks which will display all assessments with course name and module name as shown in picture below.

Download:

You can download the KTree dashboard plugin from the Moodle plugins database through this link – https://moodle.org/plugins/local_dashboard

Moodle Versions supported:

As of now the plugin only supports Moodle 3.0 versions. When I tested it on my Moodle 3.1 versions, I was not able to drag the blocks to re-position them.

Rating:

I am very happy to see such a nice effort which can change the overall user interface of Moodle. So, I am happy to give this plugin 4.5 stars out of 5 with the only lacking point is the documentations and the capability to add more blocks or configure the existing one which will be a big addition to the existing purpose.
